You are a driver so you know that incidents may happen not just
on the road, but also in parking lots. Most of the incidents
caused by violent drivers are taking place in suburban parking
lots.

In order to avoid getting caught in a violent parking lot
incident, you should keep in mind some tips:

- Use common courtesy in your actions to prevent behaviour that
may disturb other drivers.

- Retain yourself from acting aggressively towards other drivers
by controlling your stress level.

- Stay calm and keep your cool whenever you are involved in a
parking incident. Always take into consideration the possible
outcome of your behaviour.

- Try to let pedestrians cross the street in front of your car
as often as possible. Remember that you are sitting comfortable
in your car while they may be walking in snow, rain or hot sun.
According to parking services regulations, pedestrians are
always having the right of way. And always be careful at small
children. They can jump in front of your car at any moment.

- Signal whenever you want to turn, even if you are driving
slowly. Driving in a parking lot doesn’t mean you have to ignore
driving regulations.

- Occupy only one parking space.

- Respect parking services requirements and don’t use a parking
space for a disabled person if you are not disabled. Common
sense should also stop you from acting in this manner.

- Most parking lots have drop-off zones and no-standing areas.
Don’t park in these places as you will be causing activity
blockage in that area.

- Don’t steal other drivers’ parking spaces. This action is the
cause of the majority of aggressive incidents that occur in
parking lots.

- Try not to use any obscene gestures as they will definitely
offend other drivers. Try not to keep in mind that the other
drivers might misinterpret your gestures, so don’t use any
irritating moves.

- Don’t use your car phone while parking your car. A parking
services statistics stated that fender-benders caused by drivers
talking on the phone while parking their cars is the second most
common cause for violent incidents.

- Avoid eye contact as much as possible if another driver is
looking for a fight. Get out of there ignoring his/her
aggressive behaviour. If the violent driver is following you, go
to the nearest police station to let the officers know what is
happening.

- And always remember that if everyone would be using their
common sense, there won’t be so many violent incidents in
parking lots. Therefore, don’t forget to be polite and
considerate!

.

Modern vehicles make a lot of demands upon their batteries. We
expect our batteries to be reliable, have a large reserve
capacity and a long life span, and be maintenance-free.

In
short, once a battery has been installed, we no longer want to
think about it. Here’s some tips on how to choose a battery that
will serve you well.

For automotive applications, there are basically three types of
batteries: conventional, maintenance-free, and recombination.

Conventional Batteries

A 12-volt automotive battery contains six cells. In each cell is
a series of alternating positive and negative plates, between
which are isolator or separator plates to keep them apart. All
the negative plates in the battery are connected, as are all the
positive plates. Each plate has a grid construction, and to this
grid, the plate’s active material - sponge lead - is bonded. The
plates in each. cell are covered with a solution of distilled
water and sulfuric acid (electrolyte). As the battery discharges
(supplies electricity), the acid in the electrolyte reacts with
the active material in the battery plates, forming lead sulfate
and weakening the electrolyte solution. Conversely, as the
battery is charged, the acid is returned to the solution,
thereby strengthening it, and the used portion of the lead
sulfate is converted back into active material in the plates.
During this process, hydrogen and oxygen molecules are
off-gassed out of the electrolyte, which is why a conventional
battery often needs topping up with distilled water. The charge
and discharge cycle also means that some lead sloughs off the
plates. Over time, this builds up in the bottom of the case,
reducing the overall capacity of the battery fluid. When enough
material builds up, the plates will short out, and you’re stuck
with a dead battery.

Maintenance-Free Batteries

Closed (maintenance-free) batteries are essentially the same as
conventional batteries, except that they contain extra
electrolytes in the partially sealed case. However, over time,
this excess fluid is used up as fluid slowly off-gases hydrogen
and oxygen molecules through the vents. Because these batteries
cannot usually be topped off, once the plates begin to be
exposed, the battery’s life span is over. Usually, this takes a
long period of time, which is why these batteries often last
longer than conventional batteries. However, in situations where
frequent, rapid charge/discharge occurs (such as when running a
winch or powerful spotlight without running the engine), a
maintenance-free battery may not outlast a conventional one.

Another type of maintenance-free battery is the gel-type battery
While these batteries cannot leak or spill fluid and can be
installed at odd angles, they do have a weakness. Using
electrolyte gel necessitates the use of thinner plates so that
adequate dispersion of the acid through the active material
occurs. Since gel batteries are also sealed, they cannot be
topped off and care must be taken when charging so they don’t
overcharge and gas-off, which will result in excessive sloughing
of the plates, premature reduction in electrolytes, and eventual
battery failure. This means that during the harsh vibrations
associated with trail riding, a marginal gel battery can fail
completely as the plates literally fall apart.

Recombination Batteries

The recombination battery is overall the best battery for
off-road and heavy-duty use. They’re called recombination
because they recombine the gas formed during charging,
channeling it into the separators so it doesn’t vent out of the
battery and reclaiming the water to keep electrolyte
concentration at optimum. They are completely sealed (except for
a reseating pressure-relief vent) and require no topping off of
fluids. Recombination batteries can use either liquid or
gel-type electrolytes and are different from other batteries
because the acid is bound into the separators and pure lead can
be used in the plates. Because of the purity of the materials
used, there is no sloughing and the plates in these batteries
can be very tightly packed. The result is a powerful, compact
battery with quicker charging time, lower internal resistance
than conventional or maintenance-free batteries, and a longer
life span. In fact, for a conventional battery to deliver the
same amount of starting power as a recombination battery, it
would have to be two or three times larger. Because they contain
no liquid as such, recombination batteries can be mounted in any
position, will work when the case is damaged, and won’t leak in
a rollover. In short, for off-road use, they are just about the
perfect battery.

How Batteries Are Rated

Battery ratings are a determination of how much power a battery
can produce under marginal conditions. There are a number of
ways to determine a battery’s output, but ratings by ampere hour
(Ah), cold-cranking amperes (CCA), and reserve capacity are the
most common.

Ampere hours are determined by the SAE 20 test. This test is
designed to show the amount of current that can be drawn from a
battery for 20 hours without the voltage dropping below 1.75
volts per cell. In real-world terms, this means that a healthy
battery should be capable of keeping the parking lights lit for
20 hours. For starting your truck, Ah doesn’t mean much.
However, for powering accessories without the engine running,
this can be an important measurement.

Cold-cranking amperes or CCA is the unit of measurement that
generally determines a battery’s ability to start your engine.
CCA is a measurement of the worst conditions under which a
battery can be expected to deliver current, and it tests how
much current in amperes a battery can deliver under extreme
cold. According to the American SAE standard, CCA is determined
by measuring how much current can be delivered in amperes for 30
seconds at -18 degrees C with a final voltage of 7.2 volts per
cell or higher.

Reserve capacity is an important measurement for the total
capacity of the battery and shows how long a battery can keep
the engine running if the alternator/generator fails. Reserve
capacity of a battery is measured in minutes at room temperature
(approximately 70 degrees F). During this test, 25 amperes is
drawn from the battery for as long as the voltage does not drop
below 10.5 volts. For off-road use, it’s a good idea to make
sure any battery you purchase has a reserve capacity of at least
120 minutes.

Reserve capacity is also important for those times when you need
to run a radio, spotlight, winch, or other electrical accessory
without running the engine.

A Batteries Two Enemies

Although just about all modem batteries are pretty reliable,
there are two enemies that can grind even a brand-new battery to
a halt - extreme cold and extreme heat. Batteries are at their
best with internal temperatures (not ambient) above 50 degrees F
and below 105 degrees F. Below and above this range, problems
can develop, and a dead, damaged, or . useless battery can be
the result.

We’ve all noticed that under extremely cold conditions (below
freezing), the battery will turn over the starter motor slowly,
if at all. This is because when the internal temperature of the
battery gets below the optimum range, the chemical reaction
inside the battery happens more slowly, and for every 10-degree
drop below freezing, the time that the chemical reaction takes
doubles. Because of this increased resistance, the voltage in
the battery drops and cannot turn over the engine.

Heat can also have an adverse effect on your battery’s overall
health. Battery power is reduced when it’s subjected to
excessive temperatures, but the problem may not be immediately
noticed until the temperature drops. At higher temperatures, the
chemical reaction within the battery is more rapid. The battery
can produce more energy more quickly. This is good, right?
Wrong. The higher rate of energy production results in an
increase in off gassing; the water in the battery is vented out
as hydrogen and oxygen molecules and the rate of internal
corrosion, or sloughing, increases. This can result in a short
in one or more cells that is not noticed until cold weather
diminishes the overall ability of the battery.

What to Buy

When it comes to batteries for automotive use, there is no such
thing as a perfect battery. Any battery can fail if it is
neglected, constantly overloaded, or overcharged. The important
thing to remember is to get the right battery for your needs,
one that is rated for your vehicle and all the accessories you
use. Generally, this means a high Ah, high CCA, and high reserve
capacity. Also, make sure you buy a quality unit. Don’t be
fooled by the low price of the budget shops. Batteries sold in
the no-name-battery discount stores often are poorly assembled
and use inferior materials in the plates and separators.
Name-brand batteries, such as AC-Delco, Sears DieHard, Exide,
Interstate, Optima, and others, are manufactured to the highest
standards, delivering high reliability combined with long life.

For off-road use, however, we feel that the recombination
battery is the best overall, since it delivers high output,
needs no maintenance, holds up well to the rigors of off-road
driving, and has a quick recharge rate, as well as a long life
span. It is a particularly useful battery for the off-roader
because it has no liquid to leak out and can be mounted in any
position (even upside down). Because of this, it won’t corrode
battery trays or cables and is safe in a collision. You can
actually shoot a 45-caliber bullet through the battery casing
and it will still crank at full power. Try that with a
conventional battery, and you have a leaking mess that will at
best produce minimal voltage.

Although recombination batteries are sold under various brand
names, Optima’s 800U is the original and also the only battery
available with both top posts and side terminals, a feature that
makes it especially well suited for specialized installations
and powering accessories and where there is installation room
for only one battery Since we also run a winch and driving
lights from the starting battery, it has to be a powerful one.
The 800 CCA and 120 minutes of reserve capacity the Optima
offers means we can rely on the unit as a power source for
lights and winch use when the engine is down, without
sacrificing starting ability. Additionally, the side terminals
make it easy to power the winch and other accessories directly
off the battery without disconnecting the main power cables and
disabling the vehicle’s computer. This makes for a clean
installation without a lot of cable clutter at the main battery
posts, which is especially important when there’s limited space
around the battery top.

Most people pay their traffic fines without going to court
because they don’t know how to beat a Ticket. You should only
pay the fine after a guilty verdict or if you don’t care about
points on your license and higher insurance premiums.

Use these
guidelines to Beat a
Ticket if you care. When you hear the siren, pull over
switch off the engine, roll down the window and place your hands
on the steering wheel. Don’t make any sudden moves. Whatever you
do, don’t admit guilt. Make mental notes while the officer
writes the ticket. Valuable information includes: ?	the traffic
conditions ?	color of your clothing ?	passenger names if
applicable ?	registration number of the patrol vehicle ?	any
noticeable characteristics of your vehicle ?	location of the
offense ?	road and signage conditions The next step is to enter
a plea. You stand a better chance to get off with a warning or
get your case dismissed if you have a clean traffic record. Pay
outstanding parking tickets. Inspect the vehicle code you
violated and break it up in sections to build a defense for
every part. Obtain information about the arrest record of the
citation officer, his training record, and if applicable his
radar certification. Return to the scene and take pictures of
the road signs and traffic controls. All of this information can
help you to Beat a Ticket. The judge may dismiss the case if the
traffic officer who wrote the citation, doesn’t show at the
court on the set date. Try to get an extension of the trial date
to increase the chance that officer will be absent. You face the
risk of conflicting arrangements on the new date, but it may
also be an inconvenient date for the officer. You can beat a
ticket on technicalities such as: ?	Faulty equipment. ?
Incorrect procedures followed ?	Lack of officer training ?
obscured traffic signs Success with this strategy will depend on
your detailed account of what happened on that day.

You need the name of the manufacturer; make and model of the
radar unit; serial number; copy of the manufacturers’ standards
for maintenance and operating procedures; and the maintenance
record to proof that the radar reading was wrong. Lack of
regular maintenance can favor your chances and you may be able
to Beat a Ticket by proving that the radar unit was not
maintained properly. The radar unit must be calibrated after a
reading. The case may get dismissed if the record shows that it
was only calibrated at the beginning and end of the shift. You
can get out of other traffic violations such as driving in the
wrong lane or passing another vehicle where a sign forbids it on
account of weather, obstruction of view, preventing an accident
or even being confused with another driver. It is however, a
difficult defense strategy if you plan to beat a Ticket.
Research relevant case law to help you win the case. Get
acquainted with the court
procedure before your trial date. Dress in a professional
manner and be on time. Remember you are innocent until proven
guilty. You can beat a Ticket if you follow the above guidel

BMW US reported April 2007 is one of the strongest months of sales in the country. Twenty eight thousand six hundred ninety two (28,692) vehicles were sold in April 2007. It projects a 0.5 percent increase from April 2006 sales, which totaled to 28,563 vehicles.

Meanwhile, BMW brand this year still has strong sales with a 4.9 percent increase as compared to its sales last year. Ninety two thousand six hundred seventy (92,670) vehicles were sold from January to April this year, while 88,353 vehicles were sold last year.

Twenty five thousand three hundred ten (25,310) BMW brand vehicles were sold in April 2007, making a 0.2 percent increase from last April 2006’s 25,250 vehicles.

Sales of BMW automobiles from January to April 2007 were pegged at 71,907 automobiles. This showed a 5.3 percent increase from last year’s same period sales of 68,311. In April 2007 alone, a significant 10.1 percent increase was got by BMW from its 18,427 sales in April 2006 to 20,290 sales in April this year.

However, the company experienced a 26.4 percent decrease in its sales of sports activity vehicles. Only 5,020 vehicles were sold this April compared to 6,823 sold vehicles in April last year. The X5 showed a 21.8 percent increase in sales in April 2007 as compared to its sales during the same period last year.

Meanwhile, January to April sales of BMW sports activity vehicles increased 3.6 percent; from 20,042 sold vehicles during the same period last year to 20,763 vehicles this year.

Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) sales in April 2007 decreased 12 percent, which totals to 7,368 CPO sales, versus April 2006 sales. From January to April 2007, CPO sales also went down; but this time only 7.9 percent. From 28,630 last year, sales reached only 26,376 this year.

Two point one (2.1) percent sales on BMW automobiles increase was reported by MINI USA. Three thousand three hundred eighty two (3,382) automobiles were sold this April and 3,313 automobiles were sold on the same period last year. From April to January 2007, MINI USA reported a 10.5 percent sales decrease from 12,798 cars sold last year to 11,455 cars sold this year.

BMW, maker of quality <a href="http://www.aftermarketperformanceparts.com/bmw-catalytic-converter.html"title="BMW catalytic converter" target="_blank">BMW catalytic converter, and MINI brands combined, BMW Group in America was established to include BMW brand, the MINI brand, and the Rolls-Royce brand of Motor Cars.

As what most do not know, BMW stands for Bayerische Motoren Werke, in German or Bavarian Motor Works, in English.

To be introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2005,
the all-new BMW 3 Series Sports Wagon will be available in the
US beginning in October 2005.

The BMW Sports Wagon will continue
the highly successful tradition of combining more versatile
cargo space with the performance and handling of a sports sedan.

The Sports Wagon will be powered by BMW’s new, advanced N52 3.0
liter 6-cylinder engine. This includes magnesium/aluminum
composite engine construction, and BMW’s patented Valvetronic
variable valve lift system, which replaces the conventional
throttle for more efficient engine breathing and improved
responsiveness. The 325i Sports Wagon is equipped with a new,
standard six-speed manual gearbox and a six-speed STEPTRONIC
automatic transmission is optional.

It is equally impressive in its space and roominess. Length
(+1.65″), width (+3.07″), height (+0.35″), and wheelbase
(+1.38″) are all increased compared to the previous generation
Sports Wagon, providing front and rear occupants with additional
space and comfort on the road.

Near 50-50 weight distribution, all-wheel drive, a long
wheelbase, and short body overhangs front and rear are simply
ideal for outstanding agility and driving safety under any
circumstances.

The double-pivot front suspension, newly developed for the 3
Series Sedan, offers an optimum balance of driving dynamics and
ride comfort in the Sports Wagon as well. Utilizing extensive
aluminum component, this innovative suspension design offers
superior tracking stability and low unsprung weight. The
five-link rear axle in lightweight steel, ensures precise wheel
guidance as well as excellent roll comfort, ensures
class-leading agility and dynamic handling.

Safety features include the first front-to-rear Head Protection
System to be offered in the 3 Series employs a curtain-type
system, which takes up less space in the headliner and can
remain inflated for several seconds after deployment, especially
important in case of rollover. The 3 Series is BMW’s first to
employ seat-mounted side-impact airbags, as opposed to the
door-mounted type of the predecessor and other current Series.
In their function of protecting occupants’ pelvis and thorax
regions in side impacts, the seat-mounted airbags are equal to
the door-mounted type, but offer greater freedom for the
interior designers to achieve their functional and esthetic
goals. It has a sophisticated electronic control strategy for
managing the deployment of airbags and safety belt tensioners.

This approach to optimal effectiveness of safety systems now
becomes more precise, thanks to a new sensing mat in the front
passenger seat. Called OC3, the mat is more highly sophisticated
than its predecessor; it measures the weight and analyzes the
pressure distribution of the occupant in order to distinguish
between an adult and an infant in a child safety seat. The front
passenger’s airbags will be deactivated, should the driver
install a forward-facing infant safety seat. The footrest is
designed to crush under the force of the driver’s left foot in
certain frontal impacts, so that the full impact force is not
transmitted to his or her foot and leg. The Mastervac (brake
master cylinder) is mounted so that as the front end deforms, it
rotates, and with it the brake and clutch pedals. The pedals
move forward, canceling much of the force transfer to the
driver’s feet and legs if they are on the pedals

Have you heard about the ENV yet? It’s pronounced like “envy”
and stands for Emissions Energy Vehicle.

After many years of testing, Intelligent Energy of London has
developed a motorcycle-like vehicle that shows lots of promise.

The ENV was introduced in early 2006 and has shown great promise
by being embraced by the public.

The technology used in this vehicle is a fuel cell. For the
technology-minded, it uses a proton exchange membrane fuel cell.
The cell converts hydrogen and oxygen to generate electricity.
In short, the fuel cell takes the protons and electrons from the
hydrogen atom and this forms an electric current.

This electricity is then fed to a series of batteries which
powers an electric motor. This gives the bike its power to run.
The only noise emitted is from a cooling fan.

For the technology-minded, there is some fascinating usage of
greatly available resources (hydrogen is the most abundant
element). For many of us, though, all we are interested is: does
it work?

In short, the answer is a resounding yes.

The motorcycle will top out at about 50 miles an hour. True, not
freeway speeds, but not everyone has a need to travel at high
speeds. And it will run for up to 100 miles or about four hours
between fill-ups.

Now this is still a long way from giving many of us all the
benefits of our gas-guzzlers. But, it’s a terrific start. After
all, if this technology is available for a motorcycle, how far
behind is the ability to power the SUV?

Another nice advantage to the ENV technology is the quiet
operation. A nice quiet ride through the countryside can be just
that: quiet. And, who’s going to miss the smelly emissions we
get from our gas and diesel engines?

The cost for being the “envy” of your neighborhood? Intelligent
Energy says that it will sell the bike for somewhere between
$6,000 and $8,000 (US).

Maybe these high fuel costs are going to result in something
positive after all.

.

Largely known as a cowboy town and home NASA base, who would’ve thought that by renting a charter bus, it’s possible for you to enjoy a totally cool nightlife in Houston! Don’t have any ideas at all? Worry not, you can start by asking the charter bus driver about where is the most fun to go.

But here are a couple of places that the charter bus can take you to so that you can party all night (and day too) long if you want…right there in Houston.

First, understand that the nightlife in Houston is very diverse. You can sit in the comfortable seats of the charter bus, look out of the charter bus window and see a very wide range of party places along the streets of Houston. There are nightclubs, lounges, sports bars…the likes and if you like variety, sit back and relax while the charter bus takes you bar hopping.

First up the list of hot party places in Houston, let’s take the charter bus to The Bronx Bar which is filled to the doorway with youngsters and young adults out to have fun all night long! You can hear the bass from the boom box even before you step out of the coach bus. The locals love to come and party in Houston’s The Bronx Bar because of the energetic environment.

If the young crowd is not really your thing, let’s hop back into the charter bus and go to our next party destination - somewhere quieter and calmer. Take the charter bus to some place where you can party and eat at the same time and that would be the Dark Horse Tavern. It’s an absolutely favorite with the local crowd because it is filled with the eclectic drinking crowd, especially during the weekends.

There many other places you can take the charter bus to to have loads of fun in Houston, so, go on ahead and book your charter bus now. .About the Author

Whoever coined the term, car bra, must have done so to attract a
lot of attention. Apparently, they have succeeded. Cars, trucks,
SUVs, and vans are all sporting bras and they are a very
attractive site.

Let’s take a closer look at car bras and what
they are all about.

Not all car bras are called car bras. Other names you will hear
are hood protectors or car masks. Personally, they
look like masks more than anything to me in that they cover the
front end [or face] of the car, leaving headlights and turn
signal lights free. Some are designed so that fog lights can
also be bra free.

Besides looking absolutely cool, car bras do have a practical
function to them. A properly installed bra will protect your
car’s front end from flying debris, rocks kicked up by other
vehicles while you drive down the highway, insects, and road tar.

Some bras cover the entire hood while others cover the grill and
a small section of the front of the hood. In the latter case,
two piece car bras allow for you to keep the bra on while still
being able to lift the hood, if need be. Some car bras must be
removed in order to access the hood.

Car bras are made of a leather looking material, typically
vinyl. The underside is usually made of a flannel material to
prevent scratches to your car’s surface.

Just like a bra you buy for yourself - or for your wife, guys -
there is no one-size-fits-all car bra. Make sure that the car
bra you purchase is for the specific make and model of your
vehicle. Size matters!

Installation is easy and takes fifteen minutes or less. No tools
are required as you simply fit everything into place.

So, protect yourself with a bra. Protect your vehicle, that is!

.
