Hello and welcome to part 6 in the building a show car series. Today we are going to look at the display of a show car at a car show.

If you’ve put all that time, money and effort into building a show car you’re going to want to get a good display to show it off.

At car shows a lot of the time two cars will end up in a tie, and it’s the car that has the best display that wins. On the judging sheet displays sometimes have their own category, can be awarded extra credit or can be used as a tie breaker if a tie comes around.

The display ranges from the basic display which will just be a description board by the side of the car, to the really elaborate displays with the whole car elevated 4 or 5 feet off the ground on top of a spinning turntable with all 4 rims off showing off the rotors, lots of mirrors underneath the car showing off the undercarriage and all of this on top of a coloured carpet that matches the car.
The more elaborate displays obviously cost more money but allow you to show more parts of your car off for example if you’ve chromed the whole undercarriage people can see this with the mirrors instead of just reading about it on the description board.

If you choose to have a display be creative and don’t just copy someone else’s idea, be unique and original. The last thing you want the judge’s to think is that you are a copier and that you are doing it to fit in with the other cars. This goes for the car too as I have mentioned in previous articles the car should be for you and the car should be different from the rest, building a show car is like an art and you are the artist, the same goes for the display of the car as well.

If you are going to a night show, you can get creative and can use a whole array of gadgets such as strobe lights, laser machines, disco balls, fog machines, led and neon light kits etc. On the other hand if you are going to a daytime show you’ll want to emphasise any special qualities about the car such as the suspension, undercarriage or anything that sets it aside from the rest.

Stay tuned for the final part in the building a show car series looking at the engine/motor on Monday.

Nowadays, more and more people are enticed to buy used cars.
With so many financial choices available and cars “living
longer,” many people just opt to buy used cars.

In fact, many smart consumers contend that buying used cars is
just the same as buying new ones if the buyer knows how to buy
used cars.

So, to help those who wish to buy a car but cannot afford a new
one, here are some of the best tips that can be implemented when
buying a used car.

1. Research

It is extremely important for an individual to conduct some
research when buying used cars. In this way, the buyer will be
able to know the ideal make and model to buy, the kind of
performance to seeks, and the prices of used cars in the market.

Moreover, the risk of buying used cars is lessened if the buyer
knows the important details to consider when buying used cars.

2. Check the cars history

The car’s history will definitely provide the buyer some solid
information regarding the performances, repairs, and problems of
the car. So if you CAN discover some history it would be to your
advantage. In this way, the buyer will be able to compare and
differentiate one car from the other. There are instances
wherein used cars are being sold because of some past accidents
or negative experiences. Buyers might consider more if the car
he or she is about to buy has a history like this one.

3. Check the safety features

What more can you expect with a used car but it does not
necessarily mean that the buyer will neglect the availability of
safety features in the car.

By all means, an ideal car must possess safety features, whether
it is old or new. According to some reports, almost 80% of the
accidents are heightened because safety features are not
available in the car.

4. Buyers should be wary about the documents that are included
when buying used cars.

Buyers should be sure that the car is not stolen, there are no
liens on the vehicle, and that the one who signed on the “Bill
of Sale” is the true vendor and the possessor of the property.

5. Before buying a used car, it is best to meticulously inspect
the overall condition of the car first. Buyers should be wary of
any rust or damage; the tires should be checked, etc.

Indeed, buying a used car can be very tedious. Nevertheless, it
will give the buyer some satisfaction and assurance that what he
or she has bought is a good buy.

According to Autodata Corp, auto statistics shows that luxury vehicles sales is down by 3.3 percent though November this year compared to same period last year.

However, luxury brands like DaimlerChrysler AG’s Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar and BMW, have sold well.

Moreover, December is considered one of the most promotional months in the auto calendar. This is because big spenders consider luxury automobiles lavish gift for the Yuletide season. In a survey made by Lexus dealers in the United States, it was found out that 10 percent of sales were for a gift.

Auto dealers revealed that at least one or two of their customers every December intends to surprise a significant person with a new set of wheels. Luxury cars are decorated with a giant bow to make that person stunned with joy. Great spenders are not bothered by the fact that they are shelling out tens of thousands on a luxury vehicle just to make significant persons blissful.

According to Tim Smith, owner of Bob Smith BMW, a dealership near Los Angeles, “It is similar to giving a puppy as a gift. Dogs are really neat, but if you bring the dog home and your wife’s not ready for a dog, you and the dog might be walking out the other door, tail between your legs.” This holiday season BMW vehicles are very much in-demand for gift-giving. This is because the automaker is famed for its reliable auto parts BMW creating a very loyal clientele. These vehicles also suggest spirited and lavish driving.

One of the lucky persons this season is Jane David who received a Jaguar S-Type luxury sedan from her New York stockbroker husband. According to David it is the best Hanukkah present she have ever gotten. S-Type, a midsize executive car, was introduced by Jaguar for the 2000 model year. The executive car is deemed a revival of the S-Type introduced in 1964. The production of the car will be stopped next year. However, the automaker will replace it with the XF, which will still be using striking Jaguar auto body parts.

Another fortunate woman is Paula Scarpello who was given a new Mercedes-Benz convertible by her 59-year-old chiropractor husband. She recalled her husband saying Santa had another gift waiting outside so in pajamas Mrs. Scarpello went out to find the convertible with a giant red bow on it. She recalled saying, “That’s a fun thing? That’s a big fun thing.”

Aside from making BMW manual, BMW is ready for another tough challenge.

The BMW endurance racing team are in Barcelona and preparing for their next dare - the 24 Hores Frigo de Motociclisme at the Circuit Cataluyna in Barcelona.

The 24-hour endurance race will give the team a chance to continue the development of the 1200s bike they raced so successfully in the Le Mans 24 hours earlier this year, though the one at the Circuit Cataluyna is not part of the World Endurance Championship series.

Since then, the bike has improved in terms of weight reduction of some five or six kilos, refined aerodynamics and other small touches. The rear Brembo disc and caliper are now lighter then before, as is the lower triple clamp. A new windscreen and mild revisions to some of the streamlining has given the bike a better shape and appearance through the air.

The team is allowed to use four riders for this race, so they have called up Briton Richard Cooper. He may only be a twenty-four year-old rider but he is an experienced BMW racer and exhibits BMW’s commitment to youth. Richard joins the triumvirate who finished top in their class at Le Mans and 16th overall. The triad is composed of Marcus Barth, Thomas Hinterreiter and Rico Penzkofer.

Team Manager Berti Hauser said that this race was in their schedule for the season and it gives them the opportunity to put into practice what they have learned at Le Mans. The race gives their team a nice opportunity to test the ideas from that race and continue their development programme for this bike.

Hauser continued that they learned a lot in Le Mans and they feel that their pit work will now also be better because they have a bit more experience of this category. The team targeted to finish the race at Le Mans, and they did it. And for the upcoming race, the have the same target. He said that he would like a top ten finish at the Circuit Cataluyna, but one can never tell what is going to happen in a whole day race. His team wants to make this a good race for all the BMW fans in Spain and exude that they are a sporty brand.

He also said that they chose Richard for he has experience of this kind of bike plus the fact that he is young. Hauser said they want to show that young riders can have fun in their kind of team and on their kind of bike.

Bugs and Cars

For those of us living in the southern US states, the
proliferation of the insect population is a recognizable part of
southern living. Evidence of the huge bug population is manifest
on vehicles across the southland in warmer months, particularly
on the hood, in and against the grille, and right on the
windshield.

Fortunately, two products have been developed that
can effectively combat the resultant bug splatter: car bras and
bug deflectors. Are they good choices for your car? They can be!
Please read on to learn more.

Car bras - Also called hood protectors, car bras provide
maximum protection for the front end of virtually any vehicle on
the road. Custom sized for each vehicle, car bras slip over the
front end, covering the grill and the front part of the hood.
There are some car bras that extend further up the hood almost
to the windshield too. Some car bras are two part sections that
allow for motorists to gain access to the hood without removing
the bra, while others are one piece units that must be removed
before popping the hood. In all cases, bugs are deflected from
the grille and from at least part of the hood with a car bra.

Bug deflectors - Also called bug shields, bug deflectors
work primarily to protect your hood and windshield from bug
juice. In addition, some bug deflectors can deflect other small
objects including stones kicked up from the road which can crack
your windshield. A bug deflector is installed at the top section
of your grille at the point where the grille meets the front
part of your vehicle’s hood. Like car bras, bug deflectors are
sized for the particular make/model you own, although there are
some models that can be custom cut by consumers too. A strong
double adhesive tape typically fastens the deflector in place,
therefore no drilling is involved.

Typically, motorists install one or the other product on their
vehicles and not both as a bug deflector must adhere to the car
itself and not to part of the bra. Still, some bras have a lip
installed that sits across the hood of your vehicle, acting as a
mini bug deflector of sorts.

So, next time you make a trip through America’s southland or if
you are a road warrior wanting year round protection for your
vehicle’s front end, a bug deflector of car bra can be something
that does the trick. Oh, by the way: both products look really
cool too!

A common site in your neighborhood auto garage is a mechanic
tightening up the lug nuts on your car with an impact wrench.
You hear the common screech of the impact wrench as it makes
quick work of the lug nuts.

You also probably rarely see that
same mechanic actually use a torque wrench. Impact wrenches are
great tools but they can and will over tighten the lug nuts on
your car. At first that doesn?t sound like a bad thing. Tight is
good, right? Not necessarily. Most manufacturers recommend using
a torque wrench when tightening lug nuts. They will specify a
certain ft/lb to dial in on the torque wrench. This insures the
nuts are tightened properly. Over tightening can damage the
studs and possibly lead to a failure in the future. Here is what
happens. When the nuts are tightened, the studs will stretch.
This tension holds the wheels on to the rim. If you over tighten
the studs you can damage them and they could fail. The best
approach is to use your impact wrench to snug up the nuts. Then
go back with a torque wrench and tighten to the manufacturer
specifications. Next time you are having your tires rotated or
changed, make sure the mechanic uses a torque wrench and the
correct torque. Having the proper tools makes all the difference
and will extend the life of your car.
